With all of the different pond care products and tips out there, you may be asking yourself — “Which way is the RIGHT way to care for my pond this summer?” It can certainly be a bit overwhelming. That’s why we’re here with a few sure-fire tips to get you and your pond through the summer with ease.
- Take care of your plants. Be sure that your aquatic plants are placed at the appropriate depths within your pond — no fertilizer necessary! Your fish will fertilize the plants for you.
- Make sure your skimmer net and pad are clean. Once a week check and clean your skimmer net and pad.
- Don’t overfeed your fish. Only feed your fish once every other day. In addition, only give them what they can consume in three minutes time.
- Keep your pond natural. Never add harmful chemicals to your pond like additives or phosphates to control algae bloom. Plants actually act as excellent natural water purifiers.
It’s important to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all checklist for pond care. Practices can differ pond by pond.
