Why do Koi jump out of the water?

Koi have many interesting habits. One of them just happens to be  jumping out of the water, and although they rarely die from it, there are several reasons for this behavior.

Sometimes fish jump out of a pond to get rid of parasites. Watch them to see if they are scaping their bodies up against the rocks or the side of the pond. Watch your koi closely to ensure they have no visible signs of parasites or infections. If you do suspect parasitesthey need to be treated.
